Short resume

Graduated in Electric Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1986), obtained its master's degree in Applied Mathematics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (april/1997) and doctorate in Computer Graphics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (jan/2009). In the years of 2003 and 2004 worked as an invited researcher of the Institute for MediaKomunication of Fraunhofer Gesselschaft (IMK/FhG, presently IAIS/FhG), developing applications in the area of applied Virtual Reality for Geoscience and Engineering. Up to now work as researcher of CENPES ( PETROBRAS research centre) and as teacher of post-graduate courses in Computer Science (Distributed Operating Systems, Software Engineering and Programming Languages). He has more than 20 years of experience in the software development in the area of Applied Mathematics and Numerical Computations while working with Seismic Processing for the E&P department at Petrobras since 1987. In the year of 2000, when moved to CENPES, he started to develop software in Computer Graphics with emphasis in Visualization of Massive Engineering CAD Models, Scientific Visualization and Virtual Collaborative Environments applied to the areas of Geoscience and Offshore Engineering.

Ø     MSc. In Applied Mathematics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - IM-UFRJ, Brazil, 1997.

Ø     Post graduated (Latu Sensu) in Artificial Intelligence at Fluminense Federal University - ILTC-UFF, Brazil, 1991.

Ø     BSc. in Electrical Engineering at Polythenic Engineering School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - Poli-UFRJ, Brasil, 1986.

Professional

2003 - 2004   FhG/IMK- Fraunhofer Institute for MediaKomunication, Germany

International Guest Researcher, Virtual Environment Competence Group at FhG/IMK

From January of 2003 to December 2004 he worked as a guest research scientist at the Virtual Environment division of the Fraunhofer Institute for Media Communication (FhG/IMK) in Sankt Augustin, Germany. His research activities at FhG/IMK consisted of:

Ø       Development of new Visualization and Virtual Reality techniques applied to Geosciences and Offshore Engineering projects in the VRGeo consortium

2000  ...          CENPES - Petrobras’s Research Center

Researcher, Offshore Engineering Research Group

He has been working at CENPES, Petrobras Research Center, since 2000 as a Systems Analyst with the development of large scale engineering applications for Petroleum Engineering. Upon joining the offshore engineering group he started to develop interactive graphical applications for Real-time Visualization of massive CAD models inside immersive projection-based Virtual Environments (Powerwall, Holospace, etc.).

Ø       Development of graphical applications and libraries for modeling and visualizing Offshore Engineering equipments. Research for application of Virtual Reality techniques in CAD/CAE projects for Offshore Engineering.

1987 - 2000   Petrobras E&P - Exploration and Production Department

Systems Analyst, Information Technology Dept.

He has been working for Petrobras since 1987 as a Systems Analyst with solid experience in the development of large scale scientific applications in Geophysics. While with the geophysics group, he developed scientific software systems using Digital Signal Processing, Neural Networks, Numerical Analysis, Computational Linear Algebra and Parallel Programming techniques for Seismic Processing.

Ø     Development of graphical applications and libraries for modeling and visualization in geosciences, using X-Window, OSF/Motif, Java, C/C++, OpenGL, Unix (on several platforms, like IBM-AIX, SGI-IRIX, PC-Linux, Sun-Solaris, HP-UX);

Ø       Development of scientific software systems using digital signal processing techniques applied to Seismic Processing and PVM and MPI programming on current Petrobras’s high performance architectures ( like the IBM 3090/600E 6VF during the 80’s and more recently the SGI Origin 2000 a NUMA architecture);

Ø       Definition and implementation of tools for integration of in-house and third-party geophysical and seismic applications.

1986 - 1987   Eletrobras - Brazilian Electrical Company

Electrical Engineer, Projects Research and Development Division.

Ø     Development of scientific programs for Power Systems Network Analysis;

Ø     On-line Database used by the application programs which perform the functions of the Brazilian Energy Management System;

Ø     Study of the Brazilian Power Generation and Transmission Plants.
